2nd NWHS Wildlife/Nature Photo Contest - We Have A Winner!
Source: NWHS News
National Wildlife Humane Society recently concluded the Fall 2009 Wildlife/Nature Photo Contest. The contest was held in Wildlife Community Network (WCN). The winner was voted on by the members of WCN. Congratulations Kevin, the contest winner! Kevin nabbed his awesome treefrog photo while in the rainforest of Ecuador, on an eco-tour with "Touch The Jungle" (see the Rainforest Program link to learn how you too can go there). It wasn't an easy win though, as all of the photo entries were outstanding.
The contest photographs were compiled and included in an NWHS Contest YouTube Presentation for all to enjoy. The winner, Kevin, will receive the NWHS DVD Video Compliation which contains 8 videos, including the video of this contest entries. Follow the News link to view this Fall Contest Video!

Of the 5,490 mammal species that have been identified by scientists, 79 are extinct or extinct in the wild, 188 are critically endangered, 449 are endangered and 505 are classed as vulnerable, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) said.
The
annual Red List, published yesterday, also shows that 70 percent of identified plants, 35 percent of invertebrates, 37 percent of freshwater fish, 30 percent of amphibians, 28 percent of reptiles and 12 percent of birds are under threat. The survival of a total of 17,921 species is in jeopardy. "This year’s IUCN Red List makes for sobering reading,” Craig Hilton-Taylor, manager of the IUCN Red List Unit, said. “These results are just the tip of the iceberg ....
