Cougar spied in western Wisconsin
Source: LaCrosse Tribune By: Tribune Staff
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - A cougar has been confirmed roaming in three western Wisconsin counties, state wildlife officials said. A motion-activated trail camera captured a clear image of the cougar Saturday night in Dunn County, according to the Department of Natural Resources.
DNR biologist Jess Carstens then discovered a partially eaten fawn deer carcass Monday covered with corn stalks in a farmerÂ’s field. Tracks and hair samples also have been found in St. Croix and Pierce counties, DNR officials said. This could be the same cougar photographed and tracked Dec. 11 in Stillwater, Minn., as the now-frozen St. Croix River would allow the cat to cross into Wisconsin, officials said.

Federal judge allows the round up of wild horses in western Nevada
Source: Las Vegas Equestrian Examiner By: Rena Schoonmaker

Visitors to Red Rock, Blue Diamond and Pahrump are often privy to the sites of these wild creatures. For those new to Nevada, wild horse, burro and wildlife populations have been a hotly debated topic for decades, if not longer. Ranchers are concerned about adequate grazing land and water for their livestock. Animal activists are concerned about the freedom and preservation of the wild horse, burro and other wild life such as coyotes, mule deer and pronghorn antelope. For our neighbors in western Nevada, this debate is a current topic of discussion.
This week a federal judge declined to issue and injunction to stop the round up of an estimated 2,500 wild horses in western Nevada known as the Calico Mountains. This is a 500,000 acre area located between Humboldt and Washoe counties and is presently home for an estimated 3,000+ head of wild horses.
Horse advocates say they are disappointed that the roundup can proceed and feel the that the BLM's out of state holding facilities are illegal. Additional appeals are expected....
